Larry Correll has been the organist at First Baptist for three years. He and his wife came to Winchester in 2000 and served as Music Ministry Assistants at Grace Lutheran Church. During his time here in Winchester Larry celebrated his 40th year as a church musician. Larry has a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota, a Master’s Degree in Music Education from Texas University, and a Master’s Degree in Church Music from Shenandoah University.

Mr. Correll’s studies have been in Organ with Ruth Berge, John Schmidt and Steven Cooksey and in Conducting with Paul J. Christiansen, J. Robert Hanson, James Sudduth, and Steven Cooksey. Larry has played for several churches in Virginia, Texas and Minnesota and has been a band director in those states for 39 years. Next year will mark his retirement from teaching in the public schools. During his 39 years he has taught at the elementary, middle, high school and college levels.

Professionally Larry belongs to the American Guild of Organists where he presently holds the office of Dean, the Virginia Music Educators Association where he has just finished a four year term as the Chairman of District 16 (Loudoun County), he is a member of the American Lutheran Church Musicians, the College Music Society, the Hymn Society, the Percussive Arts Society, and holds a life time membership in the Texas Music Educators Association and the Texas Band Masters Association. I love working at First Baptist Church and hope to continue as the organist for many years to come.
