First Baptist Youth Ministry

The Youth Ministry at First Baptist Church is a dynamic community of students, grades 6-12. Along with adult leaders, the youth endeavor to serve God and neighbor through discipleship and study, mission and ministry, fellowship and friendship.

DISCIPLESHIP & STUDY

The Youth meet twice a week for Bible Study and fellowship:

Sunday Schedule:

  • 9:45 am Youth Sunday School Opening (downstairs in the 301 House)
  • 10:00-10:45 am Youth Sunday School
    • Middle School (grades 6-8): Upstairs Classroom in the 301 House
    • High School (grades 9-12): Downstairs Classroom in the 301 House

Wednesday Schedule:

  • 5:45 pm Dinner (We eat in the CEB with our church family every week except the last week of the month when we eat together in the 301 House; during summer months we eat in the 301 House.)
  • 6:15-7:30 pm Youth Group in the 301 House

Other Opportunities:

During the school year, the youth also hold a Winter Retreat at Hunting Ridge Retreat that focuses on topics as varied as parables, friendship, listening for God’s voice, and Jesus in Film. We also hold a break-out Sunday school class in the spring about the importance and significance of believer’s baptism. In the summer, the youth hold a Youth Vacation Bible School in conjunction with the children’s VBS.

MISSION & MINISTRY:

The Youth are committed to serving God by serving our church family, our community, and our world. The following are a few of the ways we serve:

Quarles Night:

On the last Wednesday of every month during the school year, the youth travel to Quarles Elementary to fill backpacks for school. This program, funded by a grant and the Blue Ridge Area Foodbank, ensures that all students on free or reduced lunch have food available to them over the weekend.

Jubilee Kitchen:

The youth work with the Jubilee Kitchen ministry of First Presbyterian Church routinely, serving hot lunches on Saturday afternoons to members of our community.

Service Projects:

The youth are available to serve our church family by caring for the grounds around the 301 house, mowing lawns, and helping with service projects for church members in need.

Passport Camp:

The youth attend Passport Camp every summer, a mission and discipleship camp located in various areas of the country. During camp the youth have worked on construction projects, visited in nursing homes, helped with children’s programs, and served at other mission sites. The camp also provides an important time for spiritual growth and discipleship as the youth participate in worship services, devotional times, and Bible study groups.

FELLOWSHIP & FRIENDSHIP:

At every youth event, we hope to build friendships. We play games, discuss scripture in small groups, and work with one another on projects. There are some activities that are particularly designed as fellowship events such as Game Nights at Youth Group, Middle School Nights, Camping Trips, Pool Parties, Hiking Trips, and trips to amusement parks and other fun places. Each trip and event is intentional as we build friendships we hope will last a lifetime!

We hope you will join us for Sunday school, Youth Group and all the exciting events planned for the youth each month at First Baptist Church. Please do not hesitate to call if you have concerns or questions.
